It was once called the Adriatic Highway and connected the northern Adriatic with Dalmatia. Today it is called Istrian Spring because the entire route takes place in Istria. In recent years, the race usually consists of four stages: a prologue and three stages.
While the prologue consists of several kilometers where sprinters aiming to win the first leader’s jersey come to the fore, the other stages offer plenty of excitement. The organizers do not want to leave anyone out: climbers, sprinters, and riders who enjoy breakaways all have their chance to shine in this race. Over four days, the race passes through the whole of Istria, mainly through its interior, but it also includes the coast.
The Istrian Spring race is mostly contested by teams in the professional and continental categories, among which future champions and stage winners of the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España are often hidden.
